Privacy Policy
Last updated: 28 August 2026
This policy explains what personal information The Fierce Edit collects, why we collect it, what we do with it, and what rights you have. We are the "data controller" for that information.
Who we are
- Registered company name: The Fierce Edit Ltd, trading as The Fierce Edit
- Company number: 17018453, registered in England and Wales
- Contact for privacy questions: hello@thefierceedit.com
What we collect
When you order: your name, email address, delivery and billing address, phone number if you give one, and the details of what you ordered.
When we personalise something for you: the wording you supply — which may include names, dates, and in the case of seating charts and table plans, the names of your guests.
When you pay: payments are processed by Shopify Payments and its supported providers. We never see or store your full card details.
When you contact us: your email address and whatever you choose to tell us, including any photographs you send about an order.
When you use the site: cookies and similar technologies record how the site is used. See "Cookies" below.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
| What we do | Why | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| Take and fulfil your order, send proofs, arrange delivery | To do what you have asked us to do | Performance of a contract |
| Answer enquiries and provide quotes | To respond to you | Steps before entering a contract |
| Keep accounting and tax records | Because we have to | Legal obligation |
| Handle returns, complaints and courier claims | To resolve problems | Contract and legitimate interests |
| Send marketing emails | To tell you about new work | Your consent — you can withdraw it at any time |
| Improve the shop and understand how it is used | To run the business well | Legitimate interests |
Guest names and event details
Seating charts, table plans and place cards mean you send us other people's names. We use those names only to make your order, we do not add them to any mailing list, and we delete the working files once your order is complete and the return window has passed. We keep the order record itself for accounting purposes, as described below.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with organisations that help us run the business:
- Shopify — hosts our shop and processes orders
- Shopify Payments and its supported payment providers — take payment
- Royal Mail and our courier partners — deliver your order, and receive your name, address and contact details
- Our accountant — sees transaction records for bookkeeping and tax
- Email and marketing tools we use to send order updates and, if you have opted in, marketing
We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
Information leaving the UK
Some of our providers, including Shopify, process data outside the UK. Where that happens, transfers are covered by safeguards approved for use under UK data protection law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or an adequacy decision.
How long we keep it
- Order and transaction records — six years after the end of the financial year they relate to, to meet HMRC record-keeping requirements
- Proof artwork and working files — up to 12 months after completion, so we can remake or match a piece if you come back to us
- Guest lists and event details — deleted once your order is complete and the return window has passed
- Marketing contacts — until you unsubscribe
- Enquiries that do not become orders — up to 12 months
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- have inaccurate information corrected
- ask us to delete information, where we have no continuing reason to keep it
- ask us to restrict how we use it
- object to processing based on our legitimate interests
- ask us to transfer your information to another provider
- withdraw consent to marketing at any time
Email hello@thefierceedit.com to exercise any of these. We will respond within one month. There is no charge.
Cookies
Our shop uses cookies that are necessary to make it work — remembering your basket and keeping checkout secure. We also use cookies that help us understand how the site is used, and, where you have agreed, cookies set by advertising and social platforms. You can accept or reject non-essential cookies through the banner on the site, change your mind at any time, and block cookies in your browser settings, though the shop may not work properly if you block the essential ones.
Children
Our shop is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please email hello@thefierceedit.com first so we can put it right.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.
